Event inspiration straight from the field

03/08/2016

Summer is truly underway, which means a whole host of exciting festivals are about to open up their gates to hundreds and thousands of thrill seeking revellers. Rather than over sold events, with nothing more than ‘some tents in a field’ however, more and organisers are investing time, energy and money into seeking out creative ways in which to build a truly immersive experience.

We love this new wave of beautiful boutique festivals, and can’t wait to throw glitter all over ourselves and dive headfirst into a field ourselves!

In the run up to this season of frivolity we have gathered some creative ideas on how festivals inject fun into their day. We’ve also included tips on how you can recreate the festival atmosphere for your next party or event (but maybe with better toilets!)

First things first – fancy dress!

At some festivals you may actually stand out more if you are in ‘normal’ clothes than if you are not, with glittery wigs, questionable leggings and a plethora of onesies becoming commonplace in fields all over the nation. Suggest a fancy dress theme for your next party, and provide some props in-house so shy guests can join in too once they have loosened up! For added effect, hiring hosts with professionally applied hair and makeup can tie the whole theme together, impressing your guests and inspiring their costume edits as the night goes on!

Don’t skimp on the décor

These modern day festivals consider decoration a top priority. The thought of spending a few days in a decadent wonderland is in fact a main pull for many festivalgoers looking to escape reality for a weekend. This is not about sophisticated details however, and for a festival ready venue, source the biggest and most ridiculous props and furniture you can. This summer we have seen oversized pom poms hanging from trees. These balls of fun are simple to make whilst providing a childlike and almost circus like look. For the furniture, why not switch a dining chair for a magical toadstool or an armchair for a throne to make turn your party into an adventure wonderland waiting to be explored.

Making memories

Thousands flock to summertime festivals to see hours and hours of live music, however many organisers now think beyond the stage and include additional extras to make special memories to last a lifetime. Secret Garden Party is one example of a festival that truly pulls out all the stops in curating exciting activities throughout the day – in the past they have built glitter showers, hosted mud wrestling and even had mermaid swimming races! Whilst mud wrestling may not be practical for your high-end product launch or glamorous party, something as simple as a photobooth or even a giant ball pit can get your guests laughing and talking about your event, long after your doors have shut!
